Breaking: 66 killed in Kaduna amidst fresh violence
As Nigeria prepares for the 2019 presidential election, 66 people have reportedly lost their lives to attack by gunmen in Kajuru local government area of Kaduna state.
According to reports, among the victims are 22 children and 12 women while four wounded persons were said to have been rescued by security agents who were alerted of the attacks.

Confirming the incident, Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-Rufai, in a statement signed by Samuel Aruwan, senior special assistant to the governor (media & publicity) expressed sadness at the development.
The governor consequently vowed that the perpetrators would be brought to book.
“Government condemns the attacks and commiserates with the families of the victims. Security agencies have been deployed to the area and arrests have been made.
“The government urges community, traditional and religious leaders in the area to encourage residents to avoid any reprisal attacks and to leave the matter in the hands of the security and law enforcement agencies.
“The killings are being investigated and residents are assured that indicted persons will be prosecuted.
“Residents of Kaduna state are enjoined to uphold peace and harmony, shun violence and allow the elections to be held in an atmosphere of calm,” the governor said, according to Channels.
The settlements affected include Ruga Bahago, Ruga Daku, Ruga Ori, Ruga Haruna, Ruga Yukka Abubakar, Ruga Duni Kadiri, Ruga Shewuka and Ruga Shuaibu Yau, , Daily Trust reports.

Meanwhile, recall that Legit.ng had reported that ahead of 2019 presidential election, gunmen wearing military uniform on Thursday, February 14, reportedly attacked a vehicle belonging to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Benue state.
The vehicle was reported to be conveying non-sensitive election materials to one of the LGAs in the state.
