Troops destroy gun truck, IED laden vehicles in Baga (photos)

- A gun truck belonging to Boko Haram terrorists in Baga area of Borno state has been destroyed by troops of Nigerian Military

- The troops also destroyed a vehicle carrying Improvised Explosives Devices

- Also, some Boko Haram elements and a suicide bomber met their water loo while frantically fighting to break into the formidable defensive position of the troops

Troops of Nigerian military have destroyed a gun truck and one vehicle carrying Improvised Explosives Devices owned by the Boko Haram terrorist group in Baga, northern area of Borno state.

The Nigerian Army said the troops also recovered one anti-aircraft gun and three AK 47 rifles belonging to the terrorists during an operation by a combined special forces troops of the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force and Nigerian Navy operating under the auspices of Operation Lafiya Dole in Northern Borno.

A statement by the deputy director public relations, theatre command operation Lafiya Dole, Colonel Onyema Nwachukwu, said the attack against the terrorists which took place on Saturday, January 19, witnessed the fleeing of Boko Haram elements as they were overpowered by the troops.

Nwachukwu also said that the terrorists who were armed with two gun trucks, a vehicle laden with Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and a suicide bomber met their water loo while frantically fighting to break into the formidable defensive position of the troops.

He said: "The gallant troops responded swiftly in a fierce counter offensive, unleashing superior and overwhelming firepower on the terrorists and neutralizied five of them, including a driver and a gunner firing from a gun truck, a suicide bomber in a vehicle loaded with IED and two other terrorists.

"In the ferrocious counter attack, the valiant troops destroyed one Gun truck ànd one IED - Carrying vehicle. The troops also recovered one Anti Aircraft Gun and three AK 47 Rifles belonging to the terrorists. The troops are relentless and in high morale as they continue in hot pursuit of some of the terrorists who fled the scene of the encounter when they were overpowered by the troops.

"It will be recalled, that only recently, the special forces troops resolutely dealt a deadly blow on the terrorists in a battle in which the terrorists attempted to contest the control over Baga town with the Special Forces troops," Nwachukwu added.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the Nigerian Army on Sunday, January 20, said its troops killed two Boko Haram insurgents in the ongoing clearance operation at Kajeri community in Mafa local government area of Borno.

Nwachukwu in a statement in Maiduguri said the troops also recovered ammunition and rescued two aged women from the insurgents’ captivity.

He said the insurgents were killed on Saturday, January 19, by troops of 112 Task Force Battalion on clearance operation in the general area of Zaza, Kajeri-Maye, and Kajeri-Maiburem villages in Mafa.
