Portuguese club Benfica want Jose Mourinho as their next manager

- Ex Manchester United coach Jose Mourinho has emerged as a target for Benfica

- The Portuguese club want the 55-year-old to replace Rui Vitoria who has been sacked

- Jose Mourinho has also been linked with a return to Real Madrid since he left Old Trafford

Portuguese club Benfica have reportedly identified former Manchester United coach Jose Mourinho as the man who will be their next manager.

This comes after the club sacked title winning coach Rui Vitoria on Thursday, January 3, who ended his three-and-a-half year spell at the club.

Vitoria had led Benfica to back-to-back League titles at the club but has seen his side struggle to keep pace with the likes of Porto this season.

And since he was dismissed at Manchester United, Jose Mourinho made a return to his country and was recently spotted in the stands watching Vitoria de Setubal host Santa Clara.

The ex Chelsea and Real Madrid gaffer began his coaching career at Benfica and led the side to six wins from 11 games.

He lasted at the club just for three months, and according to the report on UK Mirror, Mourinho could be named as the next Benfica manager.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how the hope of Jose Mourinho making a return to Spanish club Real Madrid suffered a huge set back as Los Blancos' chiefs are no longer interested in him.

After being sacked at Manchester United, Jose Mourinho was linked with a move to Real Madrid, but the club's directors have turned their backs against him.

According to the report, Jose Mourinho has been told to forget about rejoining Real Madrid as those in power at the Bernabeu believe he is damaged goods.
