Obasanjo advises Nigerians to shun medical tourism

A former president of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, has warned citizens against traveling outside the country for medical treatment. He urged Nigerians to shun medical tourism.
The former president while speaking in Yenogoa, Bayelsa state, during a routine medical check-up said with the presence of top quality health care facilities in some parts of the country, Nigerians had no business travelling abroad for treatment.

Punch reports that the former president described the standard of the medical facilities at the Bayelsa State Specialist Hospital and Diagnostic Centre, where he had the check-up, as high.
Obasanjo said: “The same thing you get anywhere in the world, you can find here in Bayelsa. Why do you have to travel? Wherever we get best practices, let us spread such.
"When l was here last February, l saw the standard of the facilities here that could be used by all Nigerians. There is no need for a Nigerian to go to Dubai, the United Kingdom or America for medical check-up.

I went through all the medical checks that l would normally have gone through anywhere. The cost was reasonable and the services were superb. So, what people are going to Dubai, India, America, UK, Saudi Arabia for is here in Bayelsa."
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Obasanjo visited former president Goodluck Jonathan and his wife in Bayelsa state.
Obasanjo met with the duo at their Otuoke home in Ogbia local government area of the state.
