The left-back played just eight games in all competitions under Pep Guardiola last season, after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in a match against Crystal Palace last September.

The former Monaco star will be looking to get in front of Fabian Delph in the starting XI, after the ex-Aston Villa took over the position in the Frenchman's absence.

Mendy has spoken of his desire to play more games, as well as winning more trophies in his second year in England just as successful as the first.

He said: "I want to play. When you win one time you want to win a second time.

"You don't want to stop. I am so, so, so excited for keeping going like this with City."
