Benue state governor Samuel Ortom declared that he had understood why US President Donald Trump claimed that there are “shithole countries” in Africa.
The Cable reports that Ortom while reacting to the impeachment notice which eight lawmakers of the APC served on him such a thing would only happen in a “shithole country.”
It was learnt that the governor said he was being targetted for moving to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He accused the inspector-general of police and director-general of police of perpetuating evil, appealing to President Buhari to call them to order.
Ortom also alleged that George Akume, a serving senator in the state, was behind the political crisis in Benue.

He said: “Now I know why Trump called Nigeria a shithole country. It’s only in a shithole country that eight house of assembly members can suspend 22 lawmakers.”
Meanwhile, Eight out of 30 lawmakers in Benue state House of Assembly reportedly served an impeachment notice on Governor Samuel Ortom.
Tahav Agerzua, a spokesperson for Governor Ortom said the eight lawmakers have also taken over the premises of the state parliament with the alleged support of the police.
“They have taken over the House of Assembly and served the governor an impeachment notice despite a court order forbidding them from doing so,” Agerzua said.
In a related development, Governor Samuel Ortom said he defected from the APC in rejection of a political party which treats the killing of his people with kid gloves.
He made the comment during a thanksgiving service in his honour which took place at St Michael’s Catholic Rectory, Ameladu.
Ortom stated that the federal government is persecuting him over his refusal to give state land to herdsmen.
