Ndigbo need the Presidency in 2023 - VON DG Okechukwu

Osita Okechukwu, director general of the Voice of Nigeria (VON) and ardent supporter of President Muhammadu Buhari, has faulted Igbo leaders for rejecting the ceding of the Presidency to Ndigbo in 2023.
He disclosed his position following a call by the Igbo Leaders of Thought (ILT) group, an umbrella of Igbo statesmen intelligentsia led by Professor Ben Nwabueze, for a pursuit of restructuring of the country other than producing a president of Igbo extraction, Vanguard reports.

Legit.ng gathers that Okechukwu disagreed with the ILT’s position; stating that in order to end the cries of marginalisation, Ndigbo needs the Presidency.
He said: “I am in the know, that most of Ndigbo are keen on a Nigerian president of Igbo extraction come 2023. The Igbo president in 2023, will in no small measure, cushion sulking and wrinkling of hands over marginalisation.
“Restructuring will only succeed when the weaker states and people are assured of basic needs of survival. This is the target of President Buhari’s RRAP projects.
“I’m accordingly pleading with Professor Ben Nwabueze and co to join us in appealing to all geopolitical zones in the country, to support any Igbo man or woman of their choice in 2023.
“For by then, southeast will be the only geopolitical zone in the South that has not been president since the zoning convention took off in 1999. This is more pragmatic than utopian.”

Recall that Legit.ng previously reported that the Igbo Leaders of Thought (ILT) told whoever was planning an Igbo presidency in 2023, that it was no longer on the cards for the ethnic group.
They rather said that what would be more beneficial to Ndigbo and indeed the entire Nigeria, is a restructured country, where the Presidency would become less attractive and no longer an instrument for ethnic jingoism.
