Dino Melaye has been kidnapped - Bruce confirms

Senator Ben Murray Bruce (PDP-Bayelsa) has confirmed that his colleague, Dino Melaye, has been kidnapped by gunmen.

Previous unconfirmed sources had disclosed that Senator Melaye was attacked by armed men at the Gwagwalada area of Abuja, as he made his way to Lokoja, the Kogi state capital, on Thursday morning, July 26.

Legit.ng notes that the senator, who recently defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was scheduled to appear at the magistrate court in Lokoja.

Anonymous sources disclosed that the lawmaker was attacked by men who blocked his way in a Toyota Sienna vehicle.

Bruce, in a message on his Twitter handle, stated that he got wind of the development from Moses Melaye, Dino’s younger brother.

As he tweeted:

Senator Melaye’s whereabouts still remain unknown at the moment.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Senator Dino Melaye was on Wednesday, July 25, arraigned in a FCT high court, Apo, on a six-count charge bordering on an attempt to escape from custody and damage of Police property.

Melaye who represents Kogi West senatorial zone denied committing the offences, while Justice Silvanus Oriji granted him bail in the sum of N5 million.

Oriji also ordered him to produce two sureties in like sum, as part of the bail condition.
