23 Nigerians to be charged for living in Kenya illegally

- While some live and work in other countries legally, others make their way into these countries illegally
- Those living in the East African country of Kenya, recently met their waterloo in the hands of the authorities
Twenty-three Nigerian nationals will on Friday, July 13, be charged for living in Kenya illegally after being arrested.
According to the police commissioner in charge of staff operations in Nairobi, the Kenyan capital, James Thathi, they were arrested on Thursday, July 12, at a house where all of them were staying.
“Yes, we had a crack down in Gigiri and we got 23 Nigerian nationals who did not have papers. We will be arraigning them in court today," he told a radio station in Nairobi.

Recently, the Kenyan government has intensified the crackdown on foreigners working illegally in Kenya, following a directive from interior cabinet secretary, Fred Matiangi.
Nigerian authorities are yet to officially react to this latest crackdown on Nigerians living in Kenya illegally.
Meanwhile, over 50 Nigerian students are being wrongly detained in police stations in Cotonou, Benin Republic's commercial capital, their parents claimed on Monday, July 9.
They alleged that their children were unlawfully arrested by Béninoise police and kept in inhuman conditions – some since seven days ago – without being told their offences or charged to court.

According to them, 50 others were arrested, tried and jailed without their families’ knowledge. In a petition made available to journalists, the worried parents sought President Muhammadu Buhari’s intervention through his senior special assistant on diaspora affairs, Abike Dabiri-Erewa.
