New Plateau state House of Assembly speaker solicits cooperation, support from colleagues

Following his appointment to office, the new speaker of the Plateau state House of Assembly, Joshua Madaki, on Thursday, July 12, said that with him controlling the affairs of the chamber, there will be vibrancy in the legislature. Madaki called on his colleagues for their cooperation and support in order for him to succeed.

Joshua Madaki, the new speaker of the Plateau House of Assembly has called on his colleagues to support his leadership in order to succeed.

Madaki, who was the chief whip of the Assembly before his new office, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday, July 12, in Jos.

NAN reported that the Assembly on Wednesday, July 12, impeached the former speaker, Peter Azi, who steered the affairs of House for over three years with 17 out of the 24 members of the House signing the impeachment notice.

Madaki, who commend his colleagues for the confidence reposed in him, assured them of a robust Assembly that would be the envy of all.

The speaker said: “I really want to thank my colleagues for finding me worthy of this exalted office. However, I want to call on them to cooperate and support me to succeed. I want to assure my colleagues and indeed, Plateau people that under my leadership, this Assembly will witness proactive legislative activism.”

The speaker also urged his colleagues to remain focused and resolute in discharging their legislative functions.

He also commended Azi for steering the affairs of the Assembly over the years and urged him to support the new leadership.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported that the Assembly on Wednesday, July 11, impeached its speaker, Peter Azi. This followed a motion on adjournment by the member representing Riyom state constituency who passed a vote of no confidence on the duo.

The lawmakers thereafter elected Joshua Madaki as their new speaker and Nanlong Daniel as the new majority leader during the plenary session in Jos, the state capital.
