Breaking: Plateau lawmakers impeach Speaker Peter Azi
The Plateau state House of Assembly on Wednesday, July 11, impeached its speaker, Peter Azi, New Telegraph reports.
A report by TVC also reports that the House majority leader, Henry Yunkwap, was also impeached.
This follows a motion on adjournment by the member representing Riyom state constituency who passed a vote of no confidence on the duo.
The lawmakers thereafter elected Joshua Madaki as their new speaker and Nanlong Daniel as the new majority leader during the plenary session in Jos, the state capital.

Legit.ng had previously reported that the speaker of the Plateau state House of Assembly, Hon. Peter Azi, escaped impeachment when he reportedly "tried to evade a discussion on the issue of tenure extension or dissolution of the local government chairmen.”
The incident which happened on Thursday, June 28, at the plenary of the House failed to extend the tenure of the local government transition committee chairmen after it elapsed.
