Reps recommend prosecution of Omo-Agege
- The House of Representatives have recommended an immediate suspension of Ovie Omo-Agege over the theft of the Senate mace
- The House also want prosecution of six other suspects who accompanied Senator Omo-Agege into the chamber on the day of the incident
- They lawmakers noted that they should be prosecuted for treasonable felony assault
The House of Representatives on Tuesday, July 10, recommended the immediate suspension of Ovie Omo-Agege, senator representing Delta central, for 180 legislative days over the theft of the Senate mace.
The Cable reports that the House also six other suspects involved in the act to be punished for “treasonable felony, assault occasioning harm, conspiracy to steal and actual theft of the mace”, the symbol of authority of the parliament.
The lawmakers made the recommendations after considering the report of the committee set up to investigate the mace theft.

Betty Apiafi, a lawmaker from Rivers state and co-chairperson of the committee, submitted the panel’s reports for consideration during the house committee meeting.
According to him, “Senator Omo-Agege actually asked the security people to allow the men (the thugs) to come in; that was why they came in.

“They came in and forced themselves into the chamber and overpowered the sergeant-at-arms. And you know the security operatives are not allowed into the chambers.”
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that the Senate suspended Ovie Omo-Agege, an APC senator from Delta state, for 90 legislative days.
The upper legislative chamber took the decision after it considered a report by its ethics committee.
The committee had recommended that the senator be suspended for 181 days but the senate reduced it after pleas from lawmakers. Omo-Agege was one of the senators who kicked against the election reordering bill.
