Breaking: Angry residents beat local govt chairman, hold him hostage
A local government chairman in Jigawa state has reportedly been held hostage by resident of the council.
Bala Yargaba, the council chairman of Dutse local government area in Jigawa state who was also beaten was accused of non-payment of polling unit development fund meant for disbursement.
Premium Times reports that after the initial manhandling of Yargaba by the mob, he was able to maneuver his way into the local government secretariat.

It was also reported that the angry mob then sealed off the premises of the local government secretariat and stopped the council chairman from moving out before security officials including police and soldiers later arrived the scene.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that Alhaji Sa’idu Miga, the lawmaker representing Jahun and Miga federal constituency in the House of Representatives, escaped after angry youths launched attack against him for reportedly failing to provide any benefit to them since his election.
The protest occurred during the commissioning of 6.5 kilometre Jahun township road by Governor Abdul Aziz Yari, chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, in Jahun local government headquarters in Jigawa state.

It was reported that the aggrieved youths chanted ‘bama yi, bama yi’, meaning, ‘we are not with you, we are not with you’, and they advanced towards the lawmaker.
