Nigerian army is the biggest component of the Nigerian Armed Forces, it is responsible for operations of land warfare. See History of Nigerian army force. Currently, the army consists of:
- 1st Division,
- 2nd Division
- 3rd Armoured
- 81st Division
- 82nd Division
- 7th Infantry Division
- 6 Division
- 8 Division
- Training and Doctrine Command

During the Nigerian Civil War, Federal troops wore a uniform with vertical lizard camouflage pattern.

The first use of desert camouflage occurred in the time of AMIS operations in Sudan (2009). Since then Quick Response Group and Joint Security Task Force adopted such type of desert camouflage.
Today this type of camouflage is very widespread among Nigerian army uniform types. There is also another camouflage type of the uniform that is called U.S. Woodland. This type of camouflage adopted by the armies of many countries, Nigerian Navy is among them.
In the Darfur region, Nigerian military personnel wear British desert DPM pattern camouflage.
Navy special forces use Chinese Navy Type 87 blue camouflage design.
Nigerian Air Force personnel adopted the Blue-grey camouflage design.

New Nigerian army uniforms
According to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Kenneth Minimah a new type of uniform is designed at Nigerian Army Tailoring Department in Yaba. His words about a new uniform:
The Nigerian Army has decided to change the camouflage uniform of the service. We have also decided to make it ourselves so that it will have a uniform look. We will not allow anybody to make them for us. They are currently being made at the Nigerian Army Tailoring Department at Yaba, Lagos State. It will make us look smarter and better.
The military forces of Nigeria receive significant support from the government, so the new uniform is only one of the innovations expected in the Nigerian army.
