University based journals in Nigeria
Many Nigerian higher educational institutions publish their own journals. Students and graduates, as well as professors, always find it interesting to participate in this project, create outstanding publications and help develop scholarly journals in the country. Let us look at university based journals in Nigeria.
Academic journals
The National University Commission, shortly called NUC, published a report, according to which most of the journals published in Nigeria do not meet the standards used across the globe.
Only 4 academic journals out of nearly 140 publications (less than 3 percent) could be included into Group A (this group is used to describe the international standard), while all the others can be mostly called ‘local standard’ press.
NUC also notes that many university-based journals in Nigeria are divided into narrow specialization. In other words, one university can publish 3-5 or even more journals per one faculty. Such a tendency can possibly influence the final quality of each journal by the department.
