Academic journals

The National University Commission, shortly called NUC, published a report, according to which most of the journals published in Nigeria do not meet the standards used across the globe.

Only 4 academic journals out of nearly 140 publications (less than 3 percent) could be included into Group A (this group is used to describe the international standard), while all the others can be mostly called ‘local standard’ press.

NUC also notes that many university-based journals in Nigeria are divided into narrow specialization. In other words, one university can publish 3-5 or even more journals per one faculty. Such a tendency can possibly influence the final quality of each journal by the department.
