Real Madrid want their star man Cristiano Ronaldo, to tell supporters he was not forced out of the club, if he completes his move to Juventus.

President Florentino Perez and chief executive Jose Angel Sanchez are wary of a possible blame from the fans.

So if they allow the 33-year-old to leave for €100m (£88m) instead of his €1bn (£886m) release clause, the club officials want him to address the supporters.

His agent Jorge Mendes will have to make peace with the club to help him leave and it was in that more forgiving tone that Mendes spoke to Portuguese paper Record on Thursday.

He said: "If Cristiano Ronaldo leaves Real Madrid, he will remain eternally grateful to the club, the president, all the staff without exception, as well as the Madrid fans throughout the world."

Real also want Ronaldo to partake in a ceremonial send-off to mark his career achievements at the Bernabeu but the player is understood to prefer a video message to say goodbye to his fans.

Italian champions, Juventus, are on the verge of pulling off one of the most stunning transfers in history by prising Ronaldo away from Madrid.

Mendes met with Real Madrid on Wednesday for talks on Ronaldo's future and probably to negotiate a possible exit.

Speaking to Portuguese media, Mendes somehow confirmed the 33-year-old superstar is on his way out of the Spanish capital after nine years.

"If it happens, it will be a new chapter and a new challenge in his brilliant career," Mendes said to Record.

The Spanish and Italian media are all in agreement Ronaldo is on his way out of Real, with Tuttosport calling it 'the coup of the century'.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Manchester United are on standby for Ronaldo if the proposed deal to Juventus collapse.

The Red Devils have put together a staggering £250m bid for the Real Madrid talisman for a possible return to old Trafford.
