Customs seizes 11 vehicles loaded with foreign rice

- He says the vehicles were ferrying the smuggled rice along Kaduna, Zaria and Kano
Vehicles carrying bags of foreign rice along Kaduna, Zaria and Kano have been confiscated by the Nigeria Customs Service.
Premium Times reports that the confiscation was confirmed on Monday, July 2, by the assistant comptroller and commander, strike force of the command, Ekanem Wills.
Legit.ng notes that Wills said: “We were able to confiscate eight Golf wagons and three J5 vehicles conveying smuggled rice."

According to him, each vehicle had about 40 to 45 bags of rice. He said the culprits have been arrested and further investigations are ongoing.
Wills said that new vehicles have been provided by the government, which he said would be used for patrol to enhance the capacity of the personnel in the efforts to end smuggling.
He warned smugglers to find new legitimate means of livelihood, adding that the command was determined to seize all goods being smuggled into the country through its area of operation.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), federal operations unit, Zone B, intercepted 1,825 bags of foreign rice and other commodities from smugglers in Katsina state in May 2018.
The controller of the unit, Alhaji Usman Dakingari, made this known in Katsina on Wednesday, June 6.
