NOUN in Kaduna offers free education to detainee Shiite members
Some members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) known as Shiite group have been given free admission into the National Open University of Nigeria. The fresh students were said to be inmates in Kaduna prison after a crack down by the government.
The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has admitted some members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (Shiites) for degree and postgraduate degree programmes. The Shiites members were detained in Kaduna prison following a crackdown by the state government, Vanguard reports.

In an effort to further their education after being put out of school due to their detention, NOUN resolved to admit the 'liberal Muslims' as they call themselves.
Reacting to the development, families of the admitted students celebrated with immense joy. They expressed their gratitude to the institution's authority for the golden opportunity given to the inmates.
The 17th matriculation ceremony of the newly admitted students was held on the June 30, 2018, at the Kaduna prison premises where the inmates were matriculated.
In his advice to the new fresh students, Professor Abdalla Uba Adamu, from the office of the vice chancellor, said that one key mission of NOUN is to provide education for Nigerians from all geopolitical zones.

Adamu also said that the tuition is free for all the students. He said that the students are also performing impressively in their studies, adding that the institution is ready to give the students the needed support in their education.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the Kaduna state police command on Friday, June 22, said it had arrested nine suspected members of Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) known as the Shiite over violent attack on police officers in the state.
