How to apply for NYSC redeployment

Sometimes the state you are deployed to is not exactly right for you (for various reasons). There are two ways you can apply for redeployment at NYSC:

  • The first option is to apply while you are still in camp. If you go to your superiors in camp and ask for relocation, you will be given a form where you will need to state the reason for your redeployment. In addition to that, you will also need to submit an application for redeployment along with your form.
  • The second option is to apply for relocation online after the camp is over. Let’s talk about this method in a little more detail.

The whole procedure seems quite simple, doesn’t it? But what if we told you that not everyone can apply for redeployment? That is right, you cannot just do it out of your own volition just because you do not like the state you have been deployed to. In order to be relocated, you will need valid grounds. Here are three valid reasons for redeployment:

  • Marital conditions. If a woman (and this is only applied to female corps members) wishes to be redeployed to her husband’s state of residence, she can apply for relocation. In addition to the application letter, she would need to provide her marriage certificate, a document that shows her change of name and a letter from the husband’s workplace as proof of his state of residence.
  • Medical grounds. If you suffer from chronic illnesses or extreme health conditions, you can apply for relocation to the state where you can get adequate medical help. In order to do this, you will need to file an application letter and support it with a medical report from a recognised hospital or your institution’s medical centre. However, be aware that the authenticity of your claims might be questioned.
  • Security grounds. If you have been deployed to a state with unstable political climate, or a state that poses legitimate concerns for one’s safety, you are free to apply for redeployment. Apart from the application letter, no other documents are required.
