A former governor of Sokoto state, Attahiru Bafarawa, has formally declared his intention to run for the 2019 presidential election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Bafarawa reportedly told his supporters that he decided to throw his hat into the ring because of his love for the people.

“Politics is my profession. I am a grassroots politician spanning for over four decades.

“President Buhari is my student. I brought him into politics. I gave him ticket to contest when I was the national chairman of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party. Therefore I know how to run the affairs of the country and the party," he reportedly said.

Bafarawa had earlier contested for the presidential election under the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP).

According to him, the challenge Nigeria has is that its citizens allow unprofessional politicians to run democratic government.

He added that this was why there is total disregard for the manifesto of the party by political leaders.

The former governor said Nigerians were calling for restructuring because of the way the APC government was running the affairs of the country.
