Police arrest 10 JSS students over cult activities in Enugu
- The police say the arrested students included seven girls who were reportedly defiled by boys as initiation process into cult groups
- Enugu police commissioner Danmallam says the force has a list of 30 students who have been initiated into cultism through the same process
- Some of the arrested girls who spoke accused the male teachers of knowing about their activities but used it as a tool to also further defile them
The Enugu State Police Command have announced the arrest of not fewer than 10 Junior Secondary School (JSS) students for belonging to cult groups in the southeastern state.
Daily Sun reported on Saturday, June 30 that the anti-cultism squad of the police command in Enugu made the arrests following a tip-off.
According to the report, the arrested students were in JSS1 and JSS3 and were aged between 14 and 15 years. They were said to be members of cult groups the Viron Queens or White Angels.
Enugu state Commissioner of Police Mohammed Danmallam confirmed the arrests and revealed that the operation was carried out following a tip-off by an informant.

Danmallam said the police received a list of 30 JSS students who were allegedly defiled and initiated into cult groups.
Below is a list of the seven girls arrested among the ten students as identified by police:
- Naomi Peace, 15
- Ruth Nwoke, 14
- Chibuogu Adaeze, 15
- Ujunwa Ede, 14
- Chiemerie Olisakure, 15
- Akalisi Chisom, 14
- Ogbu Ebere, 14.
Edeh, Peace and Nwoke narrated how they were introduced to the cult through a friend and were defiled by 5 different boys as part of their initiation.
“We didn’t know they put drugs in the drinks they gave us. From there, we were initiated and raped by six boys,” Edeh said.
Another girl, Olisakure added: "We were threatened not to tell anybody. The irony is that at the closing hour of the school, three of the same boys who initiated us would come with bike and take us away to have sex with us. After that, they give us N1,500, as transport fare.”
Chisom, who was also defiled by 5 boys, accused schoolteachers of knowing that they belonged to the cult groups.
She said: “Some of our teachers know that we are members of Viron Queen Confraternity.
"We don’t respect our male and female teachers. Some of them used the advantage to sleep with us because we don’t want them to tell our parents.”
Danmallam added that the police are still investigating the case. The next phase of action, he added, is detectives going after those who raped and initiated the girls.
In a separate vein, Legit.ng reported recently that members of a deadly criminal gang accused of terrorizing some parts of Enugu state have been declared wanted by the state police command.
The command’s spokesperson, Ebere Amaraizu, in a statement said members of the gang have reportedly killed some people in Ehamufu in Isiuzo local government area of the state where they have been operating.
Amaraizu gave the names of some of the suspects as Emmanuel Edeh from Ehamufu and Chibuike Odoh also from Mgbuji Ehamufu.
