Hunters kill hippopotamus in Niger state

- A wild hippopotamus was recently killed by hunters in Niger state

- The animal was felled by a group of hunters in River Niger in Jebba axis

- It was killed to avert danger or tragedy in the area

News reaching Legit.ng indicate that a group of hunters came together and reportedly killed a wild hippopotamus in Niger state.

The wild beast was felled after many hours of rigorous hunting by hunters in River Niger, Jebba, Niger state on Thursday, June 28, 2018.

According to several sources, the hunt reportedly started in the early hours of Wednesday and was killed at about 4pm on Thursday, after about six gunshots and numerous arrows.

The hippo was said to have been killed to avert tragedy in the area as four local boats were destroyed in the process.

This is coming months after a hunter killed an elephant in Idanre, Ondo state. On photos shared on Facebook, the hunter is seen posing by the elephant with a rifle and comments under the post on reveal the elephant destroys crops in the state and the hunter who felled the beast is named Ajaja.
