Governors to meet security chiefs over herdsmen attacks
- Governors of the 36 states in Nigeria are set to meet with security chiefs
- The governors are to deliberate with the service chiefs on how to end insecurity in the nation
- This meeting is coming a day after governors met and resolved to send a delegate to Plateau state
Governors of the 36 states in Nigeria under the aegis of Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) have resolved to engage the nation’s security chiefs to deliberate on the insecurities in Nigeria and find a lasting solution to violent herdsmen crisis.
The governors arrived at this decision after a Wednesday, June 27, meeting were they also resolved to send delegates to Plateau state to commiserate with the victims after about 200 people were killed by suspected herdsmen.
This Day reports that in a communique signed by chairman of the forum and governor of Zamfara state, Abdulaziz Yari, the forum said it is committed to finding a lasting end to the killings in the nation.

The communique read: “It strongly condemned recent attacks in Plateau State and the spate of insecurity in the country.
“Forum noted with delight and thanked President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo for their quick response and visit to Plateau State to show empathy to the people of the state. Members equally commended Governor Simon Lalong for the way he handled the very sad situation.
“Governors resolved to hold a one-day meeting with the security chiefs to come up with a wholistic solution to the country’s security situation.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that the Christian Association of Nigeria on Wednesday, June 27, raised the alarm over alleged plans by armed men to attack Southern Kaduna and other areas dominated by Christians in some Middle Belt states.
CAN said it had been informed that the planned attacks were targeted at Southern Kaduna chiefdoms and towns that included Gumel, Dagwarga, Daddu, Mariri and Kagoro, as well as hotels, the National Open University of Nigeria and other soft targets, in particular.
