Okada ban: Anambra govt orders 1000 shuttle buses for Awka, Onitsha
- The Anambra state govt has ordered no fewer than 1000 shuttle buses for Okada riders in Awka and Onitsha, as the ban on motorcycles goes into effect
- Motorcycle operators have been visiting the headquarters of the Anambra Small Business Agency to obtain information on the modalities for the acquisition of the buses
- The only requirement for obtaining the loan to purchase one of the buses is a guarantor to be provided by the beneficiary
No fewer than 1000 shuttle buses have been ordered by the Anambra state Government, for commercial motorcycle operators in Awka and Onitsha who would be displaced when the ban on commercial motorcycles in the two cities takes effect on July 1, 2018.
The development was made public by the state’s commissioner for information and public enlightenment, Don Adinuba, on Wednesday, June 27, Vanguard reports.

Legit.ng gathers that the vehicles were ordered from Japan, at a cost of N700,000 each.
Many commercial motorcycle operators have been visiting the headquarters of the Anambra Small Business Agency (ASBA) in Awka to obtain information on the modalities for the acquisition of the buses which would be disbursed by the agency.
Speaking on the impending ban, Adinuba disclosed that the affected areas are Onitsha and its environs, including Nkpor and Okpoko; while areas in the state capital include Awka, Awmawbia, Nibo, Nise and Okpuno.
He further disclosed that the only requirement for obtaining the loan to be disbursed to Okada riders is a guarantor to be provided by the beneficiary; and that the money would not attract any interest.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that a 22-year-old tricycle rider identified as Samuel Agu, was crushed to death by a speeding bus after he was reportedly chased by a police sergeant attached to the Bridge Head police division in Onitsha, Anambra state.
His offence was his refusal to pay a N100 bribe reportedly demanded from him by the officer simply identified as Sergeant Magaji and his colleagues.
The police claimed that the victim was sighted smoking Indian hemp near the station and was crushed by the bus when he was running away from the police.
