- Nigerian players will get $20,000 should they defeat Iceland

- The Super Eagles will take on their Scandinavian counterparts

- Argentina lost 3-0 Denmark in the other Group D fixture

Every Super Eagles player have been promised a sum $20,000 if they beat Iceland today at the Volgograd Stadium in Russia, Sportinglife reports.

Sportinglife also revealed the $20,000 was in fulfillment of an agreement struck between the players, coaches and NFF before the competition started and not necessarily for the Iceland game.

Consequently, the players have promised to fight the Icelanders till their death today to revive their chances at the World Cup.

After the 2-0 loss to Croatia, the coaches and players have reassured Nigerians that they will make them smile by beating Icelanders.

Team captain Mikel Obi told journalists in a press briefing at Essentuki on Thursday he and his colleagues would like to stay longer in Russia and were not ready to be eliminated from the competition now.

“We have been able to work and train well for the competition. The training facilities, hotel and the people have been great. We hope to qualify and stay longer here so we can get to know more places in Russia”, Mikel disclosed

After coming under heavy criticisms for his under par performance against Croatia, the 33-year-old has stated he is ready to sacrifice his creative midfield role for a defensive midfield position.

Lionel Messi's Argentina were humbled 3-0 by Croatia on Thursday June,21, giving Nigeria the chance to get back into the tournament should they defeat Iceland.
