Ebonyi Police discover bomb at PDP secretariat

- The Ebonyi Police Command has discovered an Improvised Explosive Device at the PDP secretariat in Abakaliki

- The state governor said the discovery of the IED came to him as a shock; and alleged that it was planted by people in the opposition

- He directed the security chiefs to make a full scale investigation into the incident, and report to their various headquarters

An explosive device suspected to be an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) has been discovered at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secretariat along Abakaliki-Enugu Expressway, Ebonyi, by the state’s Police Command.

Governor David Umahi summoned an emergency security meeting at the State Executive Council chambers, Government House, Abakaliki, following the discovery of the device, Vanguard reports.

Legit.ng gathers that the governor expressed dismay over the desperation of the opposition to cease power at all costs in 2019, which he said was reflected in the security briefs from the commissioner of police and other security chiefs in the state.

He also pointed out that the discovery of the IED came to him as a shock.

The governor said: “The Police discovered bomb in our PDP secretariat and from all accounts, the information from the security briefs from the commissioner of Police, the IED was a little bit old, showing that it must have been planted by the desperate opposition people in one of the days I was at the secretariat for a meeting; but God did not allow the thing to detonate, and God will never allow it to happen to us.

“Our suspects are the desperate opposition people who have become jobless and aggressive ahead of the 2019 general election because they think they can cease power by all means.

“I have directed the security chiefs to make full scale investigation into the incident and report to their various headquarters, while we as government will report to Mr President."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Governor David Umahi condemned the alleged renaming of Abakaliki street in Awka, the capital of Anambra, to ‘Club Street’ by the state government.

He made his feelings on the matter known in a statement released by his chief press secretary, Emmanuel Uzor.

Umahi, who is also the chairman of the Southeast Governors Forum, stated that he would get in touch with his Anambra counterpart, Willie Obiano; and urged people to remain calm.
