Costa secures Spain's first win with a 1-0 victory over Iran

Spain finally got their first win at the Russia 2018 World Cup with a 1-0 win over Iran in their second Group B match.
The first half was deadlocked as there was no clear attempt on goal from either side, only a deflected shot from David Silva went wide.
Diego Costa scored the all important goal for the 2010 champions in the 54th minute after a good interchange play from Andreas Iniesta and David Silva.

Then an attempted clearance from an Iranian defender somehow came off Costa's leg as the ball rolled into the net to make it 1-0.
Iran seemed to have got the equalizer eight minutes later as a cross bubbled in the 18-yard box of the Spaniards as the ball was drilled in by Karim Ansarifard.

But their joy was short lived when the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) spotted an offside by the Middle East nation as it was a massive relief for Spain.
Iran gave the star-studded Europeans a run for their money as they created chances upon chances and they closet they came was when Alireza Jahanbakhsh headed just over the bar.

Spain are now level at top with their Iberian neighbours, Portugal, who also had a slim 1-0 win against Morocco.
Iran will need to beat Portugal in their last group game to stand a chance of qualifying into the round of 16.
