3 soldiers, pirate reportedly killed in Bayelsa shootout

- Three operatives of the Joint Task Force in the Niger Delta exercise code-named Operation Delta Safe have reportedly been killed by gunmen in a shootout

- The gunmen launched an attack on the Tunu flow station area of Bayelsa where the soldiers were left dead

- The spokesman of ODS, major Ibrahim Abdullahi, however, dismissed the report

Some gunmen suspected to be sea pirates have reportedly gun down three operatives of the Joint Task Force in the Niger Delta exercise code-named Operation Delta Safe (ODS) in a shootout.

Vanguard reports that of the gunmen was killed in the attack on the Tunu flow station owned by the Shell Petroleum Development Company along the creek of Letugbene in Ekeremor local government area of Bayelsa state.

According to a source, ”The shootout occurred during an attempt by the suspected armed sea pirates in four boats to invade the flow station where the soldiers were stationed.

”The soldiers were deployed to guard the SPDC flow station in the area. They engaged the youths in a shootout while trying to stop an invasion of the flow station.”

The spokesman of ODS, major Ibrahim Abdullahi, however, dismissed the report as false saying no such incident occurred in the area.

He said: ”There is no incident at Tunu flow station. Disregard whatever you must have heard about an incident there.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that gunmen believed to be kidnappers murdered and buried a member of the staff of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation John Iheanacho, after he reportedly paid them a huge ransom in foreign currency.

Iheanacho was reportedly buried around Oyigbo local government area of Rivers state where his remains was found by men of the Inspector General of Police Intelligent Response Team.

Two of the four suspects arrested for their alleged involvement in the crime, took the IGP Intelligent Response Team headed by Abba Kyari to a forest where they buried their victim in a shallow grave.
