Retro: Meet the first European princess of African origin, Angela of Liechtenstein
When Meghan Markle and Prince Harry tied the knot on May 19, 2018, many people felt the world has seen the first Royal interracial marriage, but little did they know that history was made on January 29, 2000 when Angela Gisela Brown married Prince Maximilian of Liechtenstein.
Princess Angela of Liechtenstein was born Angela Gisela Brown in Bocas del Toro, Panama on February 3, 1958 to Javier Francisco Brown and Silvia Maritza Burke.
She studied fashion at Parsons School of Design after finishing high school in New York. At Parsons School of Design, she received the Oscar de la Renta award.

Angela created her own fashion label called A. Brown. She met her husband, Prince Maximilian of Liechtenstein while running her own label.
On January 29, 2000, Angela married Prince Maximilian, becoming the first person of known African origin to marry into a reigning European dynasty.
The marriage had the support of members of the dynasty, even though some were shocked with the reality. The wedding took place at Church of Saint Vincent Ferrer in New York City.

Maximilian, who is the second son of the current reigning Prince of Liechtenstein, Hans-Adam II, is the executive officer of the LGT group - an asset management and private banking group. This enterprise began in the 1920s and has made Liechtenstein one of Europe’s most wealthy monarchies.
The couple has only one child named Prince Alfons who was born in 2001. Prince Alfons is 6th in line to the throne of Liechtenstein.
Apart from being a designer and married to Prince Maximilian, little is known about Princess Angela Liechtenstein.
