Suspected armed robbers lynched by villagers in Katsina
- Three suspected robbers have been lynched in the Batagarawa local government area of Katsina state
- The suspects were lynched by villagers who got furious after one of them was killed by the robbers
- Police in the state have launched investigation into the incident
Residents of the Salihawa village in the Batagarawa local government area of Katsina state, lynched three suspected armed robbers on Thursday, June 14.
The suspects were said to have blocked a road between Barawa and Sahilawa village around 8:30 am. According to a police source, they shot a 31-year-old resident of Salihawa village identified as Sani Lawal, Punch reports.
He said: “The development made other villagers to mobilise and confront the robbers who were eventually lynched.”
Legit.ng notes that the incident was confirmed by the spokesman for the Kaduna state police command, DSP Gambo Isah.

Gambo said: said: “At about 08.30 am, the divisional police officer, Batagarawa division, received information that armed robbers had blocked the road between Barawa and Salihawa village, in the Batagarawa LGA and shot one Sani Lawal of Salihawa village.
“The DPO and his team immediately swung into action and moved to the scene. Before the arrival of the police patrol team, the villagers had already summoned courage and mobilised to the scene where three yet-to-be identified suspected armed robbers were lynched and one locally-made pistol was recovered.
“Two of the robbers died instantly while the other was rescued unconscious. Both the victim and the surviving suspect were rushed to the General Hospital, Katsina, for treatment.
“The last suspect later died, while the victim is responding to treatment. The men of the police Special Anti-Robbery Squad have been deployed in the area with a view to arresting other fleeing members of the syndicate while investigation continues.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that two suspected armed robbers and one resident were reportedly killed following an armed robbery attack on Tandama village of Danja local government area of Katsina state.
An eyewitness, whose brother was killed by the suspected armed robbers at about 1:15 am on Wednesday, February 28, said some men in military uniform armed with AK 47 rifles stormed the house of one Abdullahi Tandama and Alhaji Sufyanu.
