On Wednesday, June 13, the impeached deputy speaker of the Ekiti state House of Assembly, Segun Adewunmi, dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All progressives Congress (APC).

Vanguard reports that Adewunmi defected to the ruling APC following his battle with the governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose, over his support for his deputy's ambition to run for governorship in the state.

While Adewunmi was impeached, the former chief whip of the State's House of Assembly, Akiniyi Sunday was also suspended indefinitely.

Adewunmi who represents Ekiti West constituency 1, at the State House of Assembly along side his counterpart from Ikere Constituency, Akiniyi Sunday, were impeached last month following alleged disloyalty to the governor.

The former was suspended at the plenary over allegation of gross misconduct, anti-party activities, sleeping on duty, absenteeism and violent against colleagues in the house.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Adewunmi was removed from office in a decision that was not surprising to many since he was already marked for sanction over his alleged activities in the House.

Following his impeachment a new deputy speaker, Shina Animashaun, was elected to replace him.

Also, Akiniyi had last month been relief of his role in the house as chief whip and investigations show that he might announce his defection to the APC.
