Why I joined kidnap gang - Suspect reveals
- The police have arrested two suspected kidnappers in Niger state
- One of the suspects said he joined the kidnap gang to make money for the forthcoming sallah celebration

Two suspected kidnappers that had been making life unbearable for the people of Sabon Mariga in the Rafi local government area of the state have been arrested by the Niger state police command.
Punch reports that the suspects were a 23-year-old Mohammed Kwairi and a 21-year-old Emmanuel Idi were arrested by police operatives attached to Kagara division.
Legit.ng gathered that the police acted on distress calls that the bandits were asking residents to pay N2.5m to a bank account or risked being kidnapped.

One of the suspects, Kwairi said he joined the kidnap gang to make money for the forthcoming sallah celebration.
“I was looking for money to buy things for the sallah; I never knew that police operatives will arrest me.
“My parents were so angry that they refused to visit me in the cell. Honestly, I have disappointed them and I pray that they would forgive me.”

The command’s public relations officer, Muhammad Abubakar, stated that the suspects were threatening to kidnap Sabon Mariga residents if they failed to pay N2.5m.
He added that the matter would be charged to court on conclusion of investigation.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that an official of the INEC Otobong Sylvester Ukpong kidnapped by gunmen near government primary school, Oruk Ata 2, on the Ukanfun-Azumini Expressway, Uyo.
The victim who was kidnapped on Tuesday, June 5, serves in INEC office in Ukanafun local government and is from Iwukem village in Etim Ekpo local government area of the state.
