Just in: FG declares public holidays as Nigerians get set for Eid-El Fitr

The federal government has declared Friday, June 15, and Monday, June 18, as public holidays to allow Muslims in Nigeria join their counterparts across the world to celebrate the 2018 Eid- El Fitr, Abdulrahman Dambazau, a minister, has announced.

Dambazau, who heads the interior ministry, made the declaration on Monday, June 11, in Abuja on behalf of the federal government in a statement issued by M Umar, the permanent secretary.

NAN reports that the minister congratulated the Muslim faithful on a successful completion of the Ramadan fast and enjoined all Nigerians to use the occasion of the celebration to pray for the peace, unity, prosperity and stability of the nation.

Dambazau also said that it is government’s desire that all Nigerians be inspired by the virtues gained during the holy month of Ramadan to live a life of sacrifice, charity and love for one another.

He encouraged all Nigerians to join hands with the government of President Muhammadu Buhari in taking the nation to greater heights.

The minister wished all Nigerian Muslims a happy, peaceful and rewarding Eid -El Fitr celebration.

Legit.ng earlier reported that President Muhammadu Buhari, in the evening of Monday, June 4, broke the Ramadan fast with state governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in his official residence inside Aso Rock, the seat of power in Abuja.

The report states that the “Iftar” with the governors was not open for full media coverage, unlike the previous ones, held with leadership of the National Assembly, judiciary and others.
