On Wednesday, June 6, President Muhammadu Buhari announced a change in the date for the celebration of Nigeria's democracy.
The president in his announcement declared that June 12 - the famous day the 1993 presidential election which produced Moshood Abiola as president was annulled - would become Nigeria's new Democracy Day.
Also in his announcement, the president bestowed the highest honour in Nigeria - the Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR) to Abiola posthumously.
Following the president's declaration on Wednesday, June 6, Nigerians and the social media have been thrown into frenzy with jubilation and commendation for President Buhari. Many Nigerians have taken to the social media to appreciate the president and give their views on the new Nigeria's Democracy Day.

Fani-Kayode also commended the president for the posthumous award of Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR) awarded to Abiola.
