Nigerian star Iwobi excited to work with new Arsenal boss Unai Emery next season

Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi has expressed excitement to play under the new Arsenal manager Unai Emery next season according to Goal.

The 22-year-old is currently with his country’s national team in Austria as they prepare for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia this month.

He came to limelight under former manager Arsene Wenger in 2015, and has been a key part of the Gunners team since then.

Iwobi admitted that his former manager, Wenger was instrumental to his career in the early stages of his career at the north London club.

Having joined the club at the age of six, and will be aiming for better performance under the Spanish born tactician next term.

[Wenger] has been there for me since I joined the club and has been very inspirational and influential on my career, but I am excited having our new manager next season,” Iwobi said, via Goal.

It has always been my childhood dream [to play for Arsenal]. I have been playing for Arsenal since I was six.

“The fact I am representing them now is like a dream come true. I am always proud to wear the Arsenal colours, and long may it continue.

The winger made 39 appearances for the Gunners in all competitions in 2017-18, a career high for the Lagos-born player.

The Nigeria international was a part of the Arsenal team that won the English FA Cup in 2017 after beating Chelsea 2-1 to clinch the title.

He also has two Community Shields to his credit while his goal of winning the Europa League title in the recently concluded season was shattered by Atletico Madrid in the semifinals of the competition.

They finished sixth on the log and they will be campaigning in the competition once again next term – and with the arrival of their new coach, who won the title three straight times at Sevilla, they might be aiming to win their European title in the 2018-19 season.

Legit.ng previously reported that Super Eagles attacker Alex Iwobi has said that he was close to tears after scoring the winning goal against Zambia that sent the Super Eagles to Russia 2018.

The Super Eagles needed a victory against the Chipolopolo’s to book their place in the Mundial and the Arsenal winger’s goal in the 73rd minute ensured the West Africans giants booked their passage with a game to spare.
