Gold medal winning athlete Onye pleads with FG to encourage her

- Rio Olympics gold medalists Lauritta Onye has pleaded with the federal government to come to their aid

- She also won gold medal at the 2015 edition of the IPC Athletics World Championships in Doha

Rio 2016 gold medal winner Lauritta Onye has pleaded with the federal government and private organisations to come to her aid.

After winning the most prestigious prize in the F-40 category of the short-put events two years back, the athlete reveals they have not got any reward from the government for representing their country in those events.

Before her feat at the 2016 Games, the 34-year-old had already won gold medal at the 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships held in Doha after setting a world record distance of 7.59 meters.

She is however calling on the authorities to reward her as well as her colleagues for going out there to represent the country and also won medals in the competitions they have participated.

On their return from Brazil in the summer of 2016, the country's top Olympic and Paralympic athletes were received by President Buhari and rewarded accordingly.

However, either Onye or her coach has not been rewarded, and she believed that it was due to her disability that the money was not allocated to her.

Legit.ng previously reported that Nigeria's Paralympic gold medalist Lauritta Onye has pleaded with President Muhammadu Buhari to reward them for their exploits at Rio 2016.

Onye won Nigeria's only medal in the field event setting a world record in shot put that added to the country's haul of silverware through powerlifting.
