Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr hinted he has indirectly rewarded striker Simeon Nwankwo a slot in the 23-man World Cup.

The German technical adviser will officially release his final 23-man squad that will represent Nigeria at the Mundial.

And Rohr has clearly stated that the big Crotone center-forward has earned his place in the team after a convincing display against the Democratic Republic of Congo in Port Harcourt.

“Today, we played Ighalo and he was amazing upfront with his style of play. Last week in Port Harcourt we played Simy and saw what he can offer to the team. He played 90 minutes against Congo but today I decided to bring Musa also in that position.

“Simy is a good striker and offers us another kind of dimension going forward, which did not have,” Rohr concluded.

Simeon scored 7 times in his last 10 outings in Serie A including a famous over-head kick against Scudetto champions Juventus.

And the six-foot-plus then got rewarded with a national team call up after a series of eye-catching performances.

The 26-year-old will be hoping to use the World Cup to launch his Super Eagles career as some big names like Lazio are already lining up a bid for his services next season.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that the Super Eagles lost narrowly to England by 2-1 at the Wembley Stadium.

Two first half goals from Gary Cahill and Harry Kane gave the Three Lions a two-goal advantage at half time while Alex Iwobi pulled one back after the restart.

The Nigerian team will take on the Czech Republic in their last warm up friendly before the tournament kicks off on June, 14.
