Leaders of Niger Delta ex-agitator groups pledge to support FG ahead of 2019 polls
- Some ex-agitator groups in Niger Delta have promised to work with the federal government ahead of 2019 elections
- Leaders of the groups in a recent meeting said that they are ready to ensure peace in the region
- They said that they are willing to work with the presidential Amnesty Programme in Niger Delta
In a bid to achieve peaceful general elections in 2019 and beyond, top leaders of several camps of ex-agitators in the Niger Delta have promised to work with and support the federal government.
Chief Bibopre Ajube, aka General Shoot-at-Sight, Victor Ben, alias Boyloaf, and HRH Ateke Tom, among others were among the leaders of the various groups. In a recent meeting with the special adviser to the president on Niger Delta and coordinator of the presidential Amnesty Programme, Charles Dokubo in Lagos, the delegation pledged their willingness to ensure order and calm in the oil-rich region, Vanguard reports.

Among others, Ekpemupolo alias Tompolo was also one of those in attendance. Murphy Ganagana, the special assistant (media) to Dokubo, in a statement on Sunday, May 27 pointed out some omissions made by the federal government in the implementation of its goals.
Tompolo said: “If you want peace, we’ve got something wrong and this needs to be corrected. There are some things that we need to present to the Federal Government. We are ready to support this government. We are ready to make peace in our kingdoms. But how can we keep the peace when you don’t make provisions for leaders of the ex-agitators?
“We are going to support you and by your appointment, the Federal Government is expecting all Niger Delta people to come together and support it. That is what they expect from you and we are going to give you the support. Anything concerning your office, we will follow you.”

Akeke Tom, a representative Richard Akinaka, said the people of Rivers state, particularly the Okrika ethnic group, identify with Dokubo’s dream and have resolved to go align with the Amnesty Programme in its original mandate through commendable initiatives.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Niger Delta activist, Annkio Briggs, had said that Theophilus Danjuma, a former minister of defence, stood up for liberty, equity, justice and truth by speaking out against suspected herdsmen killings in the country.
The Niger Delta Self-Determination Movement (NDSDM) in a statement on Monday, March 26, said that Danjuma stood for equity, justice and truth by speaking against what she called ethnic and religious cleansing.
