Former Kano governor Shekarau, 2 top northern politicians to be arraigned over N950m campaign fund

The three politicians were invited by the EFCC over a N950 million campaign fund

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reportedly completed plans to arraign Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, a former Kano state governor, Ambassador Aminu Wali and Engineer Mansur Ahmed before a Federal High Court in Kano.

The three politicians will be arraigned on Thursday, May 24 over alleged mismanagement of N950 million campaign fund, according to a report by Daily Trust.

The report said the counsel to the three politicians, Barrister Abdul Adamu Fagge, confirmed that the EFCC had filed six-count charge bordering on money laundering on them.

Fagge said the charge sheet showed that the first and second charges were on Shekarau and Wali for collecting N25 million each out of the N950 million, while the third was on Engineer Ahmed, who allegedly collected N10 million.

Also, the fourth charge was on Wali for collecting the N950 million, the fifth on Shekarau and Wali for retaining N950 million at the residence of the former in Kano and the sixth on the three of them for conspiring to collect the money.

Legit.ng earlier reported that the three politicians were expected to report to the Kano zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes (EFCC) on Tuesday, May 22.

Ahmed was a former commissioner of works in Kano state and deputy campaign director (north) for the former president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

It was gathered that the three were invited in connection with the N950m campaign fund allegedly shared among PDP members at Shekarau’s residence prior to the conduct of 2015 general elections.
