Prominent APC members in Jigawa decamp to SDP
- Ahead of 2019, several top members of the APC in Jigawa state have defected to the SDP
- They said their decision was a way of protesting against the way the party’s wards and local government congresses in the state were conducted
- The decampees were received by the new SDP chairman, who stated that APC would soon be history in the state
Some prominent members of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Jigawa state chapter, on Thursday, May 17, announced that they had quit the ruling party for the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
The decampees include the longest-serving federal lawmaker, Hon Bashir Adamu; former Jigawa speaker, Hon Abdu Dauda; members of the state and national assemblies; and some local government chairmen.
Legit.ng gathers that Hon Abba Anas Adamu who emerged as the party chairman in the state, while speaking on behalf of the decampees, stated that their decision was a way of protesting against the way the party’s wards and local government congresses in the state were conducted. He said they were full of irregularities.
Abbas, a former member of the House of Representatives, also alleged that the APC leadership in the state had failed to carry everyone along.

He stated: “With this and other reasons, we have parked our belongings to SDP as an alternative to us ahead of 2019."
Abbas stated that the just concluded ward and local government congresses had only favoured those loyal to the governor and the party; and called on all thinking and progressive Jigawa citizens to come together and salvage the state from imminent collapse.
He further said that a lot of prominent politicians were not satisfied with Governor Badaru’s style of governance; and that they would soon join the SDP. He expressed optimism that the new party would take over the state in 2019.
The decampees were received by the new SDP chairman, who stated: “Members of the APC at both states and national level are willing to join us; very soon you will agree with my statement, time will tell, APC will be a history.”
When contacted, the governor’s special adviser on media and pyblicity, Bello M. Zaki, described the decampees as ‘Buffalo soldiers’ who expected to be given juicy appointments and contracts when they joined the APC. He said the reason they gave for moving over to the SDP, was the same one they gave when they abandoned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling party.
He added: “Government has wished them well where ever they are going.”
