Notorious spiritual leader of militia in Nasarawa nabbed by Nigerian Army (photos)

- The Nigerian Army carried out an operation against militias in Nasarawa state

- The spiritual head of the group was arrested during the operation

- The army urged Nigerians to report suspicious activities

The Nigerian Army in its effort to maintain internal security carried out an operation in Ugya village in Toto local government area of Nasarawa state.

The operation resulted in the destruction of a militia camp and the arrest of the spiritual leader of the gang.

This was contained in a statement issued by Brig Gen Texas Chukwu, the army public relations.

He said: “Troops of 177 Guards Battalion while on raid operation at Ugya village in Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State destroyed some armed militia camp.

The Spiritual Head of the militia group, one Angulu Idaku was also arrested.

"Items recovered include: Seven locally made guns, twelve cartridges, 200 rounds of 7.62MM special ammunition and 76 rounds of 7.62MM NATO special ammunition. Others are; four knives, fifteen cutlasses, 6 mobile phones, One DSTV decoder set, and 4 solar panel sets.”

The army spokesperson urged Nigerians to be vigilant and report suspicious activities to security operatives.

Meanwhile, Taraba state communities were warned by armed militias against going to the farm. The militias reportedly told the affected communities that going for farming during this planting season will amount to wasted efforts because they (militias) will come after them (farmers).

Chief Goodman Dahida, president general of Tiv Cultural and Social Association (TCSA) Taraba state, who revealed this said most communities around Gbundu, Ayu-Guraku, Ananum and Shaakaa villages in Donga have been completely deserted as a result of attacks by armed militia.

Dahida, consequently called on Nigerian Army operatives of Operation Ayem Akpatuma currently ongoing in the state to look into the threats and not take it lightly, Vanguard reports.
