Just in: 1 airman killed as gunmen attack Nigerian Air Force helipad in Bayelsa
- A soldier has been killed in an attack by some gunmen in Bayelsa state
- The gunmen were said to have attacked a Nigerian Air Force helipad in Igbodene area of Yenagoa
- Some Nigerian Air Force personnel attached to the helipad were however able to repel the attack by the hoodlums
Some unknown gunmen have attacked a Nigerian Air Force helipad located in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state capital city.
The gunmen reportedly launched the attack on the guard post at the NAF helipad at Igbodene on Sunday, May 13.
The director of public relations and information of the Nigerian Air Force, Olatokunbo Adesanya, in a statement said NAF personnel on duty were able to repel the attack.

Adesanya, however, noted that an airman was killed during the attack.
"In the early hours of Sunday, 13 May 2018, a group of unknown gunmen attacked the guard post at Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Helipad at Igbodene in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. Although the NAF personnel on duty were able to repel the attack, an airman paid the supreme sacrifice in the process.
"The chief of the air staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, has immediately ordered an investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident," Adesanya said.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that some troops deployed to the Operation Lafiya Dole with the 7 Division were recently promoted by the Nigerian Army.

The troops have been rewarded with special promotion for for actively participating in Operation Deep Punch II, and they were decorated with their new ranks recently.
A special guest of honour at the event was the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Ibrahim Manu Yusuf.
