Beyoncé Mass draws faithful crowd of over 1000

- Some super fans recently celebrated Beyonce in an eye opening way recently

- They organised a mass service in a church for her in San Francisco, America

- The service specifically examined female-centric interpretations of the bible

Popular musician Beyonce is revered all over the world for her career and other things she involves herself in. But never has she been ‘worshipped’ in a church, until now.

A large gathering of people recently gathered at Grace Cathedral, a Episcopalian church in San Francisco to attend a mass for Beyonce.

According to San Francisco Chronicle, the mass is one of a three-part series at Grace called “Speaking Truth: The Power of Story in Community,” which aims to tell stories of those traditionally marginalized in Christianity, such as women and people of colour.

Organised by Rev. Yolanda Norton who had earlier taught a class called “Beyoncé and the Hebrew Bible.” One of her students, Sam Lundquist, is a pastoral intern at the cathedral, and a collaboration was born.

For Norton, both the class and the Mass came from a desire to explore female-centric interpretations of the Bible — specifically how biblical texts reflect African American female identity. Her guest sermon Wednesday hit on her key themes.

“When we talk about womanist biblical interpretation, Beyoncé felt like a natural fit,” said Norton. “If we look at the trajectory of her person and her relationships, we can see so many issues black women face and how it can affect how we interpret the text,” she added.

The music for the service was predictably from the catalogue of Beyoncé and her former group Destiny’s Child. Songs like Survivor, I Was Here, and Listen were performed.
