Governor Ortom calls for deployment of more security agents in Benue

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state has condemned renewed attacks on the people of the state by suspected herdsmen.
Speaking in a statement by his media adviser, Tahav Agerzua, the governor described the fresh attacks as barbaric, inhuman and unacceptable. He called on security agencies to be proactive in stopping further attacks in the state, The Punch reports.
The governor said: “Individuals, groups and communities should assist law enforcement agencies with information and other lawful support that would enable them to perform their duty of protecting lives and property of citizens by acting promptly on security reports and threats to peace.

“I want to restate the call on security agencies to take proactive measures to stop further killings in the state.”
Ortom said the state was not at war with any ethnic group and that no one should make inciting statements or resort to attacking any group.
He urged the people of the state to avoid acts of criminality and criminal elements who were out to perpetrate crime.
The governor also commended the security agencies in the state whose members had died while trying to restore order in Benue.

He however called for the deployment of more security agents in the flashpoints in order to enhance their operations.
Meanwhile, troops deployed in Exercise Ayem Akpatuma in Taraba state in conjunction with personnel of the Nigeria Police on Saturday, March 31, arrested some criminal elements operating in Mayo Ndaga area of the state.
Items recovered from one of the suspects Amos Titus- 35, include sheets of zinc, bed and locally made pistol.
Other suspects Palat Jafainal- 20 and Kingsley Benson- 25 were also arrested and items recovered from them include generating set, sewing machine as well as sheets of zinc.
One Rapheal Abel- 26 and Yusuf Abdulkareem- 20 were also arrested and sheets of zinc were recovered from them, a statement by Nigerian Army spokesman, Brigadier-General Texas Chukwu said.
