Former Arsenal star Kanu Nwankwo denies 2019 presidency claims

Former Super Eagles’ captain Nwankwo Kanu has denied media reports claiming he is planning to run for Nigeria's presidency in 2019.

The 41-year-old, while reacting to the news published by Goal.com earlier this week said the news was a mere ‘April Fool’s prank.

Kanu insisted that his concern is to develop and discover array of talents through his wide range of contacts all over the world, adding that he wants to continue to save lives via his foundation.

“I think there is a need to inform them that it is just April Fool.

“My immediate concern is using my vast contacts and experience to develop the Nigerian youth through sports.

“I also want to keep saving lives through the Kanu Heart Foundation.”

In the story, Goal claimed the former Arsenal player was inspired by George Weah’s triumph as Liberia’s president, having beaten Ellen Johnson Sirleaf to the seat in 2018.

A news that many other outlets republished not realizing that it was a prank – especially when it was written on April Fool’s day.
