President Buhari will defeat Obasanjo, other ex-generals - Aide
- Presidential spokesman Garba Shehu says President Buhari deserves a second term and nothing can stop him
- Shehu says ex-generals who said Buhari should not run in 2019, should come and contest against him and see that they will lose
- He also described as rumours on social media reports that Boko Haram fighters are set to be granted amnesty
The Presidency has brushed aside calls by former army generals to President Muhammadu Buhari to step aside in the next presidential elections.
The Nation reports that Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari, said that Buhari will defeat all the former presidents and heads of state.
Shehu said that Buhari deserves a second term in office and will win again if all the former leaders come out and contest against him next year.

Reacting to the call by the former leaders urging Buhari not to contest, Garba Shehu said: “My response to them is that if they like they can come and contest against President Buhari. He will defeat them, all of them.”
Shehu also said reports that Boko Haram fighters are being granted amnesty were mere rumours.
He however noted that the Presidency is open to negotiating with the insurgents to lay down their weapons because it would save lives and resources.
He said: “Whoever is peddling these rumours that Boko Haram is being granted amnesty and so on I would ask them who doesn’t want to make peace with the enemy? In any case as it is proverbially said all wars end up in the Boardroom. You can defeat people technically in the field but at the end you must come to the conference room to resolve all issues.
“So if Boko Haram would lay down their arms and stop fighting and stop preaching that negative ideology , the country should be able to embrace them welcome all of them so that they continue to live normal lives and be useful to the nation.

“What that mean is that we will be saving cost, saving lives that are being lost through bombing, killing of service personnel and we will be saving money that we are using to procure weapons so that such money can go into services and infrastructure and welfare of the citizens of this country. It is a win -win situation.”
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported earlier that the federal government’s amnesty offer to Boko Haram insurgents was condemned by the founder of the Oodua People’s Congress, Dr Fredrick Fasehun.
In a statement released on Wednesday, March 28, the OPC founder described the move as an insult to the dead and internally displaced victims of the anti-western education terrorists.
Legit.ng gathered that Fasehun also described the offer as “irrational and inciting,” and questioned the government’s rationale. He further stated that the offer is proof that the government’s claim of defeating the terrorist group was simply propaganda.
