Easter: Ortom reaffirms stand on safety of his people

Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom has assured the people of the state that his administration will continue to place priority on the security of lives, property and their general welfare.
In a statement to mark the Easter celebration sent to Legit.ng by his chief press secretary, Terver Akase, the governor said the death and resurrection of Jesus which is the meaning of Easter is a period when Christians should draw closer to God so they can appreciate His abundant grace and mercy upon their lives in the face of adversities.

He encouraged people of the state not to lose hope, stressing that his administration is committed to bringing herdsmen attacks to an end to enable thousands of internally displaced persons currently in eight camps across the state to return home.
The governor however expressed worry over the increasing number of children and other categories of people in the state's IDPs camps and used the opportunity to call on Nigerians as well corporate organisations to assist the Benue state government in managing the humanitarian crisis.
“The governor urges the people of the state to continue to show love to one another as Christ Jesus taught his followers.
“He believes that it is only when the people support authorities in building a crime-free society that the government's efforts of providing development and improved standard of living can fully be achieved,” the statement said.
Governor Ortom also expressed confidence that the current economic and security challenges will be overcomed and the state will move onto the next level of development.
He admonished Benue people to pray for the innocent persons who recently lost their lives in Logo, Guma, Okpokwu and other parts of the state following herdsmen attacks and called for continuous trust in God in the belief that things will get better.
He concluded by wishing every Benue person, home and abroad, a joyful Easter celebration.
The governor was recently quoted as saying there is no alternative to the ranching law enacted by the Benue state government to regulate livestock business.
He stated this on Tuesday, March 20, at the Benue Peoples House, Makurdi while briefing journalists after a meeting with the state and zonal leadership of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN).
Governor Ortom said the ranching law was the collective decision of Benue people, stressing that he lacks the powers even as governor to reverse or make adjustments to it.
