3 killed as suspected herdsmen attack Plateau

- Three persons were killed on Thursday, March 22, by gunmen suspected to be herders

- The victims were killed at Dong community of Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau state

The Nigeria Police, Plateau state command, has confirmed that no less than three people were killed on Thursday, March 22 in Dong, Jos North local government area of the state after the village was attacked by suspected herdsmen.

The Sun reported that incident happen at about 8:30pm, on Thursday when the villagers were preparing for dinner and the gunmen storm the village and open fire on the people.

Police public relations officer of the Plateau state police command, ASP Tyopev Marthais Terna, who confirmed the incident said the gunmen open fire on the villagers and escaped into the bush.

“Our attention has been drawn to an attack which too place on Thursday night at Dong community in Jos North Local Government Area where unknown gunmen open fire on innocent villagers and killed three persons.

“The state police commissioner quickly mobilized troops to the area to beefed security and stop further killings and reprisal attacked.”

Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau state has condemned the attack and urged security agencies to fish out the perpetrators as soon as possible.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Governor Umaru Al-Makura of Nasarawa state says government has put machinery in place to reclaim all designated grazing reserves that have been encroached upon in the state.

Al-Makura disclosed this at an expanded state security council meeting on Monday, February 12, in Lafia.

He attributed the incessant clashes between farmers and herders to the encroachment on grazing reserves across the state.
