JAMB exam statistics 2018
Every year, after everyone is done with their JAMB CBT, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board releases exam statistics to the wider public. This year, the exams were held on March 9-17, and the statistics became available on March 20.
According to the spokesperson for JAMB, Fabian Benjamin, JAMB statistics this year are as follows:
- Total amount of registered candidates: 1,652,825
- Candidates that have already received their results: 1,502,978
- Withheld results: 111,981
- Withheld results (visually challenged candidates): 350
As you can see, there are quite a lot of people that have not received their results. Now, while the visually challenged candidates are going to receive their results in the nearest future, the rest are not quite as lucky. Why? Find out below.
Why is JAMB Nigeria withholding so many results?
Over 100 thousand people are sitting with bated breath because their examination results have been withheld. Why did that happen? Once again, the answer came from Fabian Benjamin who cleared the air on the subject in his statement, as seen on Premium Times.
Benjamin said that the candidates whose results were being withheld were suspects in cheating and other examination malpractices. In some cases, the issue stemmed from the CBT centres, which was why the results of everyone in those centres had to be withheld.
In many cases, however, participants themselves were at fault. Some tried to bring their phones and study materials into the examination centres, while others went as far as trying to change their computers’ IP addresses.

Thanks to the CCTV systems in place, these rule breakers were caught on camera. All who were caught cheating in one way or another are currently under investigation and will be punished if found guilty.
Now, you might be wondering:
Is there any chance that any of the suspects will be redeemed so that they can receive their results? Well, we will have to wait and see, as the investigations are not over yet. There is a chance that some of the people accused of cheating will be ‘cleared of charges’, so they should not lose hope (if they are innocent, that is).
That is all we can tell you about the current JAMB stats. If there are any new developments in this story, we will make sure to let you know. Have you received your JAMB results? How well did you do? Let us know in the comments. Have a nice day!
