Gov Akeredolu's wife's convoy allegedly kills 2 undergraduates

- A vehicle in the convoy of Ondo state first lady was involved in an accident

- The car reportedly veered off and killed two students

A vehicle in the convoy of Ondo state first lady, Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, on Tuesday, March 13, reportedly veered off the road along Akure-Ondo road and killed two students of Adeyemi College of Education (ACE).

Sahara Reporters reports that the vehicle, assigned to the Ondo state governor's office press corps, in Anyanwu-Akeredolu's convoy, hit a separate vehicle in which the two students were travelling into a canal.

The governor's wife was heading to Ore in Odigbo local government area for an empowerment programme when the accident reportedly occurred. A government source who reportedly confirmed the accident blamed it on the overspeeding of the vehicles in the convoy.

The source said: "The convoy of tbe Ondo state governor's wife was involved in a fatal motor accident today (Tuesday) around 2pm and two persons, who were students, died. The driver conveyed people, who were mostly journalists. The driver, later identified as Mr. Jimoh, veered off to hit the students."

An aide of the governor's wife, however, denied that the first lady was in any of the vehicles in the convoy when the accident occurred.

"The accident happened today, but the governor's wife was not in any of the vehicles and those involved were the people going ahead of her for the monthly programme. We are already on top of the situation," she said.

A police source confirmed that the driver has since been arrested but declined to say further on the accident. He said: "There was an accident, which was caused by some vehicles in the convoy of the governor's wife but i don't have the details. The driver is in custody."
